Great analysis! I wish I could pick up on these subtle cinematography cues in real time.

I think this is the movie where I discovered Miles Teller. He’s a real talent.

I think I saw this and Whiplash in close succession. A very charismatic actor is he! Thanks for reading, John!

This movie along with The Kings of Summer were the quintessential, defining coming-of-age Summer films of the 2010s. Very few came close to reaching their highs ever since. A scene that still stands out to me is where Kyle Chandler shows up (to steal every inch of the screen) and plays a truly awful but seemingly cool father who's also a functioning alcoholic (if I remember correctly, it's been 12 years, jesus). That scene is quietly poignant and heartbreaking, but it adds such a key moment to Teller's character.

A wonderful analysis, Justin. It really comes through how much this scene (and movie) resonated with you. I'm gonna have to find some time to rewatch this one.

That scene with Chandler! Sticking his kid with the check! Heartbreaking. And shit, I don’t know Kings of Summer. Will seek it out! Thanks for reading, Akos!
